In The Aftermath Poem by Dana Lamb

In The Aftermath

Now that my love for you
Is cinders
I feel such utter loss
Like an earth-bound spirit
Forever condemned
To haunt some abandoned castle
Wind howling in the corridors
Doors flung open
Invitingly
But no guests come
Empty
Bereaved fireplace
Faded tapestries
In the glimmer of candlelight
A row of portraits
No longer a sanctity
Glowing supernatural
Sheen of their painted faces
So is my soul
Detached
Unchangeable
Cold
My solitude is my only castle
