I Will Not Pretend (Sicilian Sonnet) Poem by Gert Strydom

I Will Not Pretend (Sicilian Sonnet)

That everything is right I will not pretend
but constantly you remain in each thought.
I still do cherish the things that you bought
where for a time you did our marriage end

and you choose not your time with me to spend,
not to act and do as married couples ought.
I do not know what have this action brought,
with this way of life I have discontent.

I did principles and spirit in you find,
for my eyes character and beatitude.
At a time you loved me and were kind
Together life was better than just good.
I wonder what has now changed your mind,
what do your grieves with me include?

P.S. You do deny any
and still this bothers me,
where you say I am not to blame
and do suspend our marriage all the same.
