At Times Love Has Visited Me Poem by Gert Strydom

At Times Love Has Visited Me

Rating: 2.5

At times love has visited me
and left, left me
and has gone away.
It has gone to different shores,
leaving hurt, sadness
and the want for somebody
to be steady with

and every time like a fool, I am caught
in the snares that love sets,
believing in its charm, believing
that it really exists

as something more than mere passion,
as something greater
than all wants and needs
and the hope keeps alive
flickering like a candle in my heart,
for a real relationship to start.

Congrats. Nice poem. So true, being IN love, so often transient. It was S Covey coining love as a do-word, rather than a feeling.

somebody steady is a goal to strive for heartily. OR give up ever finding! ! ** i wonder if the poem is you or just your imagination. a good one in any case. a very good one. to MyPoemList. bri ;) ** but sometimes what you aren't actively seeking turns up miraculously and you may find happiness! !

A finely written piece. I agree with the terms honest, direct, and open. A painfully honest evaluation of the vulnerability we allow in the hopes of gaining a lasting love. An exercise so often ending in pain and regret. To turn such pain and darkness into the beauty of art is the blessing and curse of the poet. Well done, good poet.

Congratulations Gert, am so glad to see your penning again, it deserves to be on the first page. Great food for thought. You speak so well of the hunger (for holding hands and hugs) of our flesh and blood, wonder if we may manage to ignore it and also lower our expectations might it be possible to celebrate a different sort of love, inclusive, limitless, eternal?

as something more than mere passion, as something greater, than all wants and needs....................................., for a real relationship to start. Seems a most Romeos experience, by and large. Nice write and congrats for being the member's PoD.
