I Was What I Am Not Today Poem by Rani Turton

I Was What I Am Not Today

Rating: 5.0

I was what I am not today
The long day of my life stretches on:
Soon the dusk will fall and then
The night will also be gone;
I wonder about the change wrought
Or rather brought about by the years
Was it perception and thought
That dimmed and stopped the tears

Is it my id
That did what it did
Or was it my cortex
That lost itself in a vortex?

Dear Rani, I loved your poem. The impact of the first line was truly great! Change comes over us gradually in so many ways! I for one never thought, that after a busy life in the Air Force, I will sit down to write poems one day! For your poem 10! -Raj Nandy

Our mortality haunts us all and becomes ever more piquant as the sands of time run through our fingers. A lovely poem for everyman...and woman.
