I'M Waiting For The Time (Poverty) Poem by A. P. Hancock

I'M Waiting For The Time (Poverty)

The Good Book says that there’s a time, a time for everything
A time to laugh, a time to cry, a time to dance and sing
So I’m waiting for a time when hate, is buried cold and deep
A time when peace and unity, are the harvest that we reap

I’m waiting for the time to come, when everyone is fed
When all the children of the world, sleep on a feathered bed
A time when every one of us, is blind to shades of skin
When all will finally see the truth, that all of us are kin

I’m waiting for a time when we, no longer need the guns
When no one has to lose to war, a daughter or a son
I’m waiting for a time when life, is fair and just for all
A time when even the down and out, are standing strong and tall

I know you think I’m waiting, for what will never be
But while I stand here waiting, I hope that you will see
That I am not just waiting, but doing what I can
In hopes that you will do the same, and follow this simple plan

Do good to those who love you, do more for those who don’t
Serve every day in an humble way, even if others won’t
Stand up against oppression, whatever form it takes
Beat back the tide of discouragement, soothe some pains and aches

Be the hands and voice of God, for those in desperate need
Show them His redeeming love, and plant a joyful seed
Hold the hands of children, who need some tender care
Visit the old and aged, who sit in the rocking chair

If you will follow as I’ve said, and if I follow too
We’ll see the difference we can make, even if we are few
And though the time we’re waiting for, may only come in part
We’ll know that it was worth it all, if only just to start.
