Humane Poem by Danny Draper

Humane

Rating: 5.0

There is only one animal
And let us speak plain'
Where the word humane
Has no domain.
A horse that is lame
After a fall
Will be put down
In no time at all.
Wildlife rescued from a fire
Half cooked, dying from the blaze
Will be released without debate
By mercy's needled fate.
An old companion animal totters
Prolonged with drugs and care
Until it is decided when
Its suffering we can no longer bare.
Could we not ask our suffering
Do you want exit from the pain
To be released with love and dignity
By the mercy and grace of the word humane?

Danny this is really beautiful, its weird how often writes (our own perception im sure) as writing is understood in the mind of the reader (i think) but how works seem to sit alongside other writes immediately in thought ie i know you wrote this a while ago but this was an immediate comfort to my write tyson....i love to ponder the concept Humane i mean what is that? anything but normally in my mind.... interesting piece danny tyvm

Euthanasia is a much debated issue. Why should one suffer and lose the dignity? It's really humane thought Thanks and best wishes.

we're afraid of making doctors into murderers and them getting a liking for it and easing the rules. And of putting off prospective doctors who don't want to be murderers. and not having enough doctors after that and long waiting lists and people dying unnecessarily because they can't get to see a doctor. and having to import doctors thus leading to shortages in the poorer countries where we're getting them from and even more people dying unnecessarily over there

I am a great believer in euthanasia - bring it on, people should not be allowed to suffer when there is no futre for them, and it is what they want for themselves. Good one Danny.

A very profound write on a much debated issue. Altogether a beautiful poem especially the highly ironic tone of the first four lines!
