Human Kindness Poem by Linda Engwall

Human Kindness

Rating: 5.0

Why am I so surprised
By kindness

You know that kind that doesn’t ask for anything from you
Like the one that says you do this for me
I will do this for you kind of kindness

Yet I am amazed by it
Perhaps because it doesn’t happen very often and when it does
It is like wow,
What,
Why

I wonder if I could be like that
Just be kind
With no expectation of it in return

Wake up with my own moral compass
Not bothered by the presumption of what others will do
For me in return
If I
Am kind
To you
Will you be to me

I pray
Let me follow my inner voice
The one that understands
That we all want
This awareness
This careful thoughtfulness of
Another human being
Without regard for what is in it for me

Just human kindness for all
