Holy Eve Poem by Kat Hanlon

Holy Eve

They roam the streets
Some in slippers or cleats
And the night is holy eve
Where all who believe
Celebrate the beginning of holy week
They set bonfires alive
And dance around to celebrate life
And the night is holy eve
Where all who believe
Celebrate the beginning of holy week
Some cover their faces with masks
To ward off the demons as a task
And the night is holy eve
Where all who believe
Celebrate the beginning of holy week
They come to your door to collect their pay
For saving your house on this special day
And the night is holy eve
Where all who believe
Celebrate the beginning of holy week
Some cover their faces with ashes
A while others wear costumes with sashes
This is their night
To celebrate
This is their night
To celebrate
Some cherish their candy in hope it will last
Why others try to make the memories ever last
Cause Halloween only comes once year
And growing older is what they fear
They are like Peter Pan
They want to stay in Neverland
Growing older is near
Let them celebrate this one night that is once a year
And the night is holy eve
Where all who believe
Celebrate the beginning of holy week
This is their night
To celebrate
This is their night
To celebrate
