Happy Forever… No Such Bird Poem by Aniruddha Pathak

Happy Forever… No Such Bird

Rating: 5.0

He whose health lives longer than lasts his cash,
Limbs lasting long to cheer jolly good years,
He that can laugh like a loud lightning flash,
Fortune and fate good friends, who has no fears,
He, whose worries to heavens have been lent,
Is fortunate to have no serious ills,
He whose fruits of labour smell so fragrant,
In neighbour's joys he that finds equal thrills,
He that has learnt to live in live moment,
Whose past's buried and dreams are pleasant born,
Whose face smiles, mind muses, heart has no dent,
And lucky to look forward to next morn,
But such rare faceless souls far afar are—
Not on this earth, nor on a far off star!

Few truly know what happiness is, but if pressed, would make a long list of what to them happiness could be. As most things are in this world, happiness too suffers from duality. It is a two-sided coin like pain and pleasure, day and night, light and dark, good and evil. One cannot exist without its opposite. The first twelve lines here are like a bucket list of best of things. But…, the sonnet ending couplet says it all.

COMMENTS OF THE POEM

Happiness is derived not from money or wealth alone. It is dependent on a number of factors like sound health, intimate and sincere friends, favorable circumstances etc. All these factors cannot come together always! Sometimes life's course may take unexpected turns. So there cannot be an ever happy person. Life is a mixture of joy and sorrow and one without the other is bland....! A profound and deeply philosophical write!

You have rightly said that happiness suffers from duality. It is a two-sided coin like pain and pleasure, day and night, light and dark, good and evil. One cannot exist without its opposite. One's happiness may be other's unhappiness. In this poem happiness is well inscribed. Such happiness person are rare to look at. A beautiful poem with lofty theme.10
