God's Decision Differs Poem by Rm. Shanmugam Chettiar

God's Decision Differs

Ram sought from Tom and John for a night stay.
Tom and John had three and five loaves of bread,
Which had to be shared by three for dinner.
Each into three, twenty-four pieces were made
And shared by them to eat at eight apiece.
Next day Ram left, leaving eight coins to share.

Tom favoured for equal share of four
As they jointly hosted to get alike.
John favoured five for him and three for Tom
In tune with the number of loaves they parted.
Dispute unsolved, they reached the king to solve.
The king heard and gave his verdict next day.

‘One coin to Tom and seven to John'
Was the verdict of the king that stunned Tom,
Who thought John himself offered him three coins.
The king said that Tom spared one and ate eight
Whereas John spared seven and ate eight loaves.
God's decision differs from man's verdict.
