Freedom Poem by Amrutha Johnson

Freedom

I wanted to fly high in the sky.
Who clipped my wings?
I wanted to dive deep into the ocean.
Who cut my fins?
I wanted to sing aloud to the winds.
Who stole my chords?
I wanted to laugh like a child.
Who robbed my innocense?
No one! none but me!
For, these three things of all
My life, my choice, my freedom
Are mine to live, mine to make
Its only mine to take, all or none.
And yet why do i feel, now caged
Why do i feel, laid down to ground
Why do I feel, opressed and weak?
Are these bars so thick and strong?
Are these shackles and chain so heavy?
Yes they are! as good as i see them,
light or not just the same!
These chains, as heavy as
i tell them to be or not!
The key is me, the magic is mine!
So i choose now and here
To sour high into the skies
Dig deep the ocean floor!
Sing to my heart's fill, aloud
And laugh till I cry!
For, this is life and I choose
to live it a moment at a time!
