Knowing Someone Poem by Amrutha Johnson

Knowing Someone

How many nights to know someone?
How many days to know someone?
How many suns? How many moons?
How many miles? How many trials?

I have tried it all,
everything under the sun!
To no avail, i found it as vain
as trying to catch my shadow!

So then how do u, still your shadow
or can you try?
Even when the sun can no longer
rise and set in your eyes

The trickster will still swell
and shrink in the golden light
Till the earth's hunger consumed
all of you and set you free!

Likewise is your quest to
know someone's mind
You can try and fail, and try again!
And each time you do

Its another scar ripped off,
another bleeding wound and
Another story to tell by
the barbeque fire!

No matter how sweetly you loved
or how deeply you cared
No matter which mountains you climbed
and the seas you swam

No matter how holy you kept
your heart for their touch
You can never know, someone
as close as your shadow!

For, the sweetest of the wine
are those not tasted or made!
The best of songs are those
thats not heard or sung!

The epics are an awe because
we never lived in them!
Such is its beauty and such the fear
to know in part or in whole!
