Flying Into Tomorrow.....[short; Nature Observation; International Flight; Personal] Poem by Bri Edwards

Flying Into Tomorrow.....[short; Nature Observation; International Flight; Personal]

Rating: 2.8

We're soon flying into tomorrow
and leaving yesterday behind.
In this way we'll more daylight borrow,
but losing sleep's what we may find.

I'll go back a day when I return.
It's silly how our world works.
I'm glad my body doesn't churn…
dealing with one of Earth's silly quirks.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
I wrote this, or came up with the idea, as my wife and I were flying to Asia over the Pacific Ocean, crossing the International Date Line 'into tomorrow', and probably being awake a lot longer than usual over a 24 hour period. I was without wife on return flight. My reference to a quirk pertains to how different parts of the world experience the hours/days at different times.

Yeah, that must have been a strange feeling. I find flying into the past even stranger. The international date line is a really quirky thing. It's all wiggly, so if you flew north-south over it, you'd keep switching days! The quirk is man-made, of course. The earth itself is more regular than clockwork.

Ah-ha! The explination actually made the poem more enjoyable as well as clearer. Since this is the first of yours that I have read, I can only say good effort. Read mine - I Cannot Return - Adeline PS Did you read my Bio?
