Fishers Of Men Poem by Colin Ian Jeffery

Fishers Of Men

Jesus preached on the shore of Lake Galilee
People pressed in upon him to hear his words.
Seeing two boats nearby stepped into one
And continued to preach of God's eternal love.
Boats belonged to fishermen who fished all night
Caught no fish and were on board mending nets.
Jesus spoke to the fishermen's leader, Simon,
"Take the boat a little way out and cast your nets"
When the nets were hauled in they bulged with fish.
Jesus said, "You shall be fishers of men."
They became disciples with many martyred
After Jesus was crucified between two thieves,
And took his teachings out into the world
Keeping faith, saving souls, spreading God's love.
