Feast Of Ants Poem by gershon hepner

Feast Of Ants

Albert Roussel’s music for a spiders’ feast
does not turn me on in the very least.
Unlike some trenchermen who live in France,
I don’t eat bugs or mayflies, and think ants
should be preserved so E.O. Wilson can
describe how ants can show a way for man
to be as wise as Solomon, who found
the way that they behave to be profound.
Festin de l’Araignée makes me derider
of Albert Roussel’s PETA-challenged spider.
For meals on Thanksgiving such feasts don’t grab us
as much as fine gefilte fish on Shabbos.

Alan Chapman presented Albert Roussel’s Festin de l’Araignée on Thanksgiving, November 26,2009, leading me to wonder whether ants will be served at his Thanksgiving dinner. I suppose the answer is: Only those who have been invited.
