Don't Call Me A Rebel Poem by Randy McClave

Don't Call Me A Rebel

Don't call me a rebel
For the grounds on which I stand,
I will always support what I believe in
And I will not ever be led by the president's hand.
Yes, I do not like most of his laws
Or the proclamations that he has made,
He stands only for bettering himself
Into his worshipping ego, I will not ever wade.
I have been called many times a liberal
And sometimes worse names than that,
Even though I and the president are Republicans
I have even been called a Democrat.
I vote for the person and never the party
That is my strongest and my most patriotic belief,
I don't vote because they are my same race or gender
And I won't vote for a proud liar, or a thief.
I keep looking at the world around me
Remembering the righteous singing a faithful hymn,
Now they look at the poor, and the elderly
I wonder if they now think, why did we ever support him.
I will not or cannot be used or tricked
My soul and my mind are most certainly not for sale,
We must stand violence free for a better society;
So, don't ever call me a rebel.
