Diabetes Mellitus Poem by Richard Cady

Diabetes Mellitus

Rating: 4.5

Diabetes Mellitus a pair of ugly words
Here's what those ugly words mean
It means blood sugar meters and insulin pens
It means hospital visits and blood work done
You think that it means no more fun

Diabetes Mellitus
Gets a bit more glamorous
Bret Michaels, Halle Berry, and Nick Jonas too
You see famous people get diabetes just like me or like you

Diabetes Mellitus
It can touch anybody regardless of gender, color, or race
It doesn't care whether or not you have a pretty face

Diabetes Mellitus a manageable disease
You can stay active go and have some fun
You can eat sugary foods
Just remember your injections
And follow your doctor's directions
Otherwise you could lose limbs to infections

Diabetes Mellitus
It can be difficult some days
But after having it awhile
You get used to the finger pricks
And insulin shots
You'll figure it out in time
But for now don't whine
Diabetes Mellitus as you'll find gets easier with time

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
This poem was written after drawing some inspiration from a friend of mine I met in church. His name is Daniel Leonard. And he just found out not too long ago he had type 1 diabetes which means he'll have it for the rest of his life. He and I both have this in common. We're both type 1 diabetics which means we have to take insulin shots everyday or else we get really sick and end up in the hospital.

So this poem is for all the Diabetics out there keep it up guys and gals it gets easier with time and it's not all bad just remember there's good days and bad days you just have to learn to deal with them and try to find the silver lining
