Dark Place Poem by Jason Danner

Dark Place

I'm in a dark place,
In a dark room
With dark thoughts
And a dark heart.
I see the light
So I start to crawl,
I chase it down the hall
It disappears,
Where'd it go?
Was it every there, at all?
Maybe an illusion,
Or just a mirage,
A happy thought
Conjured in my mind
A brief escape,
A small reprieve
From the darkness
that has swallowed me.
The light fades
The darkness shades
I realize
I'm stuck in this place.
So Ive made a plan
A way to escape
Anything
to get out of this place
I've thought it through,
It's worth the risk,
To try and get out,
Of this
black abyss
