'Cresting' Poem by NiQi Deveaux

'Cresting'

Yellow comes peeking
O'er the horizon in the morn
A new day is bursting
About to be born

Changing right fore my eyes
Rising just a bit higher
Red will soon turn
The sky into fire

It will go from a purple
And fade into pink
Words float in my head
As my mind starts to think

I sit quietly, still watching
The heavenly flow
The night is now over
Killed by the sun's glow

Like when you touched my heart
And looked into my eyes
Your laughter fell on my ears
And, oh god, your sweet sighs

The orange yellow now cresting
The sun is peeking at me
The higher it rises
The more I can see

Like when you shone on my heart
And it melted the ice
My soul follows you now
No struggling, no fight

It happened so fast
In the blink of an eye
Not for us though who measure
This thing we call time

But the whole of it all
Is so vast and complete
Now I move from my bed
Feel the floor on my feet

Now that I've seen your soul
I'm no linger asleep
If hard times come to me
You'll be the floor to my feet

Solid and surely
You can hold my weight
Protecting my heart
Like a shining breastplate

And I knew that I loved you
Felt my heart flowers bloom
When spirit burst like sun rays
Into a cold darkened room

There's no doubt you have touched me
Every cell sings your name
Every heartbeat reminds me
Over and over again

That it's YOU my heart sees
There could be no one else
No one could change it at all
Not even myself

I'm a slave to your smile
And It's all for one reason
Life is so short
It will change like the seasons

It could all change so fast
In the blink of an eye
Though that's all life really is
Filled with hello's and goodbye's

So I'll hold on so tight
To every single memory
And every sound that you make
And it sets my heart free
