Commonwealth Poem by M.J. Lemon

Commonwealth

Rating: 5.0

A brown girl and a white boy
went on a date and gave
their finely shaped tongues
the permission to slither
up and down each other's
buttery skin

Meanwhile the parents of one
dined at the
Chateau Who Cares
where they poured Dijon vinaigrette
over a plate of asparagus
where they gorged on
pig flesh and duck
where they denounced
imperialism, oppression, injustice
where fleetingly they mentioned the
passing of a monarch
before retiring to thoughts of how much
paying their bill would mean for
fair trade

It challenges your readers to see what is in front of us but has gone undetected. Sprinkling a million stars on this

Don't understand why I haven't seen this gem before... but I am certainly glad I saw it now. It gives raw meat for the heart and mind to chew on.

Thank you so much, Susan. And as long as you aren't at the Chateau...

Superb. Depth and simplicity blended deeply within the soul of the matter. Brilliant.
