Bye Poem by Aria Lei

Bye

Rating: 5.0

Wow, I don't know how to start-no, I do. Here goes.

I met you in first grade. It was fun. We were friends right from the start. You made me laugh. You made me smile (not hard to do to an innocent 1st grader, but whatever) . We played together at recess, and by 3rd grade I knew you well enough and you were my first crush. We kept getting closer, talking about everything, though, to this day, I don't know the simple things-your favorite color, your favorite food. Fourth grade passed with memories of you, and...lets call her...Paiz. Fifth, you were in your first relationship, and, as I think back now, I think I was more jealous of her than hurt that you weren't paying more attention to me. Sixth grade, we grew farther apart, but I swear it was mostly my fault-I was so shy and I never walked up and just said HI. Seventh, I tried to say hi, but it was through a friend.

I should have never trusted that 'friend.'

So she told me lies and I thought they were true for a couple years. All the way up until the beginning of this year. Once again, my fault, I didn't actually ask YOU because I trusted HER. I was an ignorant idiot and our relationship suffered because of that. This year, I've tried. Trust me, I've tried, to be happy. For you-for myself. I've tried to become the best friend I once was to you-I can't say that for you. I don't know what you've been doing these past months-avoiding me? Ignoring me? Being your ignorant little self? Whatever it was it didn't help us, it hurt us.

So now I'm saying goodbye. And this isn't like last time. I won't come back this time, I won't hurt for two years over you this time. Yes, there may be twinges if I see you with HER, but I'll get past that this time. I won't be weak, I'll be strong. I'll be myself. And, from now on, I'll live my life without you in it.
