The Human Race Poem by Aria Lei

The Human Race

We are the human race,
The race of war.
We kill more of our own in one war,
than animals kill of each other in
ten years.

We are the human race,
The race of violence.
Just today I was told of
a small town going from pleasant
and safe to scary and dangerous
in the span of a year, maybe two.
That same town had six gang fights
and four deaths in the span of 3 months.

We are the human race,
The race of guns.
I just heard of a student from my own
city being shot and killed. Some people
knew the student, what do you think
they're feeling now?

We are the human race,
The race that can change.
All this fighting...it's because of
fear. That's it-that's all. If we get
rid of that fear...

We are the human race...

Why can't we be the race of Peace?
