Missing Innocence Poem by Aria Lei

Missing Innocence

Rating: 4.0

I know I am young,
I repeat that over and over,
Yet I feel so much older.
I know truths about this world
That many ignore.

Many, no, I have not experienced.
But I've seen
on TV, the news.
in writing, too many times to count.
just by knowing it happens,
I've written it
Because someday I hope for people to
read
My work and realize how ignorant they've
been
To ignore it.

I know I am young,
Yet I feel like someone already over
that figurative hill everyone talks about.
Someone who's seen too much.
If I've known seven deaths
(The people that have died)
In the past five years,
What's to come?

I guess you could call me a
Nostalgic young drama queen
If you see this as just drama
And nothing more.

But I wish for my younger days,
When I was five and six,
Playing on a playground with all
my friends,
And going to see my Auntie ever other
weekend.

I don't know, maybe I am being overly dramatic.
But I know the truths of this world,
And I know what happens when the odds aren't
in your favor,
And I know I miss when I didn't know all these
things.
