When I chose
To burn my bridges to you,
O what a stupid choice I made,
For I burned my fingers with the matches.
When I changed
My mind and wished to return,
The way to you I found not,
It lay before me now as smoldering ashes.
When I looked,
Hope had been consumed by coals,
Angry flames had lapped up my stupidity -
I learned one cannot return over burned bridges.

something that we often do in life, burned bridges a good way of seeing the wrong we do like it a lot thank you
wonderfully put the 'realization theme' within such a cute frame. glad, delighted really to read such plain expression of poesy that prompts one to enjoy and engage. Great. God Bless.
Words of wisdom, very well written. Of course, far too few people will learn this lesson before they too get burnt.
I learned one cannot returned over burned bridges. May be somewhat possible when we can fly. Just joking. It's a nice poem.I liked reading it. thank you.
Sad but so nice a poem! Yes, one should think twice before burning bridges!
A thought-provoking and, I would say, philosophical poem. Maybe it's a matter of forgiving. If it was done by mistake. If it's just not our fate, we have no need to burn bridges, we simply go away. Thank you for sharing!
I learned one cannot returned over burned bridges. It's with beautiful overflowing thoughts.I liked it. May be we can fly to he dreamy person over the burned bridges.
Once we wreck a relationship, it is so hard to reinstate it. A thoughtless action can invite so much of heart burn! Married life needs a lot of adjustments and it is easy to burn a bridge.... but unfortunately we too get burnt! By the time the realization comes, it will be very late! A great truth put in a simple frame! Enjoyed!

Short and sweet but a Meaningful write. Very true said, it's very easy to take a decision in hurry and burn the bridges. When bridges are burnt only ashes remain, it leaves scars and one cannot go back....Poet's note did bring a better view of Poem. Thank you Sir, for the inspiring comment for my poem though I baked in an oven.
