Back To Where I'M From Poem by Mustafa Marconi

Back To Where I'M From

Rating: 5.0

I’m going back home soon
Going back to where I’m from
I’m a financially unstable man
With a child soon to come
I’m going back home now
To start my life again
To clear the distractions in my mind
To be a husband, a neighbor, and a friend
I may appear reserved or silent
I may seem distant or unsure
Everything looks different with time and perspective
Like vines in the forest I’ll continue to grow
Guarding against insecurity
Or conveying some sort of misrepresentation
I may lack the glitter in my life
But I am still extremely demanding
I‘m going back home now
Going back to where I’m from
I’m a disheartened and fatigued man
With dim prospects and no income
I’m going back home soon
To renew my life again
To find peace and tranquility in my mind
To be firm and not pretend
Skeptics will say I’m acting
That I will never convert to serenity and class
With songs and poems from my sordid history
To remind me of scenes from an inglorious past
Or is it I rub your back, you stab mine
When my friends have money they don’t have the time
A neighborhood challenged by complacency and crime
Maybe I’ll mellow with a few sips of wine
Yes. I’m going home soon
Going back to where I’m from
I’m an emotionally unstable man
With a child soon to come

COMMENTS OF THE POEM
Barry A. Lanier 10 April 2009

there's a certain something about this poem that drives home many themes consistent in mankind, however I get the the feelings that I'm drawn into feeling the both the passion of the character for his homeland and culture as well as the discouragement of his current experience...
