What is it about some days
Birthday, festivals and anniversary
New Year and first of January
We wake up expectant and gay…
I ponder this foggy December
Why can’t we feel joyous and alive?
Ready to dance, sing and jive
Why it takes some dates on the calendar,
To realise we have only one life to live…
Is it because it breaks the monotony
Or for a while we feel in harmony
Is it a reminder to share and give…?
Times are rough, we try to survive,
Mind so cluttered with angst and worry
Always on the run and in a hurry,
Holidays help to release, laugh and revive…
So go ahead and ring in the New Year,
Give a thought to those who live in fear.
Hug someone who has run out of tears,
And express gratitude to all you hold dear.
