Angel Chains Poem by Kathryn Dee

Angel Chains

My heart is not a toy, neither is my mind.
I’m tired of your games, so I’m leaving you behind.
***
You never treated me right, but I ignored that fact.
You had no personality, respect or tact.
I treated my friends badly, lied to them too.
Made up stories and excuses, all just for you.
But clearly, you didn’t feel quite the same way.
I tried to make it work, I wanted you to stay.
You put in no effort, you just didn’t care.
You’d take any girl, ‘cause you were a player!
Your friends were just as bad; they were rude and mean.
They were obnoxious, annoying and completely obscene!
When they finally stopped, I thought this would work.
But then you changed drastically, and things just got worse.
It was just too clear, that you were not the same.
You picked weed over me; that was so lame!
And for weeks I cried, every single night.
But you didn’t care, you were high as a kite.
***
Since then things haven’t changed, so I thought I’d let you know.
I’m releasing all our chains and I’m letting you go.
