Always Poem by Kathryn Dee

Always

You see, I’m always hurting; you see I’m always crying.
And although I look so happy, you see, I’m always dying.
And yet, you never ask; you never say a word.
You always let me cry, and die; you always let me hurt.
You always watch me hurt, you always hear my cries.
I always want to tell you, but my words pour out as lies.
You always look so nervous; stare through my fake smile.
But you always ask me, only once in a while.
And it’s when I’m scared to talk, always, most of all.
It’s when I act so klutzie; it’s when I always fall.
When I see this monster, I stare back in the mirror.
I always feel so strong, like I haven’t got a fear.
It’s then I can recite, the words I’ve never said.
My words come out so clear, and don’t stick in my head.
But when it comes down to it, I’m frightened by the truth.
I know that always hiding is ruining my youth.
And when I go to tell you, I always feel so hung.
I try to spit out truths, but instead I bite my tongue.
I chew until I bleed, and it always hurts.
I start choking on my blood, but never say a word.
I’m always in this pain and you always see.
But no one’s ever looked at my sleeve of misery.
It’s always black and red; it’s what I wanna show.
But before I get the chance, you turn around and go.
I’m pulling down my sweater, to hide my scars so well.
I know that I’m no angel, and I will go to hell.
That day hasn’t come, so I hold my sleeve in my hand.
I’m hoping that before I die, you finally understand.
And if you never do, please remember me.
As I close my eyes the last time, with my sleeve of misery.
