All My Greatest Works Poem by Ryan Muddiman

All My Greatest Works

All my greatest works are stained
with wine or blood or time or pain
with yesterday's song or sad lament
o'er short-time-eternal's lonely bent

All my greatest thoughts are bare
for nakedness is not a dare
but a wanton-blatant show
to wit I might return to know
that when in fev'rd frenzy I
might pen a line that by and by
will soon reflect a work unstained
with wine or blood or time or pain
was neither great nor profound
but by convention it was bound
and further to convince me more
that a deprav'd soul was searching for
not that thing which might erase
the pain of time or need or place
but in its seeking it had found
that thing to which it was always bound
that want for woe to pass this plane
was nothing more than 'nother pain
and 'nother pain with righteous bent
is pleasing for my woe's lament
for all my greatest works are stained
with wine or blood or time or pain
