A Sibling Poem by SARIKA GOYAL BANSAL

A Sibling

A Sibling

My son will get a sibling,
Oh! He is such a darling.
Will he get a mere plaything?
Nay, it will mean for him everything.

Love, Joy and happiness,
Brotherhood and carefulness,
Added to it his naughtiness,
And his mamma's helplessness.

May my boy turn responsible now,
With no more violence and haughtiness!

It's one thing to bear a child,
It's quite different rearing him up.

What's happening with foetus?
Is it eating or sleeping?
Suddenly it starts kicking,
Oh! Its mother is heavily breathing.

New pain, worries and anxiety,
Amidst a period full of piety,
And all would-be grandparents' gaiety,
As all well wishers are guiding her propriety.

One day mother gets admitted,
Around her all relatives are seated,
She becomes a creature most pitted,
With all fingers crossed and fitted.

A long wait and a cry is heard,
Suddenly, the new born looks disturbed,
Leaving a safe and secure sanctum sanctorum,
It has paved way into a new world.

Papa seems most ignorant,
Knowing nothing how to hold the child,
Looking foolishly here & there,
Till he finds himself guided everywhere.

Mother gets wrapped with a new set of worries,
With difficulty in feeding, bathing and understanding her little one,
And the child continuously crying,
As if not allowing anyone sleeping.

The child gradually crosses all milestones,
Teething, crawling & walking,
Running everywhere, enjoying,
When it is heartily smiling.

To the others, it appears the most laudable little thing,
But to its parents, it turns out continuously demanding,
With its fussy eating habits, reluctance to defecate,
It mocks at grown ups' training.

Occasionally it falls ill,
Coz its parents are over caring,
Tears, seek no permission,
The kid is parents' ambition.

Rightly it has been said that,
Child is the father of man,
It teaches us love, care and patience,
And praying to God in thankfulness.
