A Shifting Poem by Andrea W...

A Shifting

I just want everything to go back to the way it was before
The world was bright back then with the blossoming of joy
Why must the happy things in life always be prone to change
I want you back, my boy
I want you back, my boy

But I see you slipping through my fingers, I'm loosening my grasp
No amount of holding onto you can keep you coming back

So here we go. Eyes that once were locked are shifting to the horizon
Separately....turning slightly as we hold each other's hands
There's a numbness with the fading ache provoked by all our memories
Such a conflict of shifting desires that I don't understand

I cry lonely tears for mourning at something special passing
The only worse thing is realizing that these tears won't be long-lasting

Our jokes and laughter ring so sweet, in my mind's eye where they will stay
The world was bright back then with our giving each other joy
But those simple, happy things with us have undergone a change.
I just want you back, my boy
If I could recapture just a moment....
I just want you back, my boy

Change the only thing more predictable is the weather. Not. Nice way of capturing past memories and how precious (and fleeting) they are. Enjoyable read. A little sad but people grow and change and we can hope they will listen to what we have said along the way (of life) .
