A Memory Poem by Chloe Evangeline

A Memory

Yes
I admit it
your smile sends me whirling
glancing around to see
if anybody's watching
and I smile back
a light little touch
on the knee or on the hand
sends my mind into the light
shoves me out onto a cliff
and I'm fighting for my life
the most amazing smile
more a goofy little grin
just for me, no one else
together walking
arms linked
two forces face the world
battling all that stands in our way
we rule the school
laughing at stupid jokes
but we are laughing
later,
outside
you tell me you love me
but I know
you don't mean it
maybe you want to love me
probably not
but i can't tell you
I can't explain to you
that your telling me
what I have thought a thousand times for you
I love you
now you're gone
like the season
and im alone again
i miss you
but you barely remember me
another girl on the list
another crossed out name
but for me
a halo around your name
whispered with every step down the hall
I cannot bear to say it
for fear I will do something rash
but let it be known
I loved you then, and I always will, my sweet
