A Little Ghost Poem by Harthman Carpio Munteanu

A Little Ghost

Rating: 3.9

I knew her for a little ghost
That in my soul have walked;
The walls were high - higher than most,
And the big gate was locked.

And yet I did not think of that
Till after she was gone;
I knew her by the way she walked,
The smile that she had on.

She had no shoes but just bare feet
And her small hands just hung;
Her skin was white and it smelled sweet,
And birds I heard who sung.

I watched to see if she would stay,
What she would do; and oh!
She looked as if she liked the way
I let my soul all grow!

She bent to taste my favorite wine
With conscious knowledge grace;
She smiled and sighed - there was no sign
Of sadness on her face.

She held her dress on either side
To let her ankles show,
And up the walk she went with pride,
The way great ladies go.

And where the wall was built in new
She had a whim so mere.
She paused; then opened and passed through
A gate that once was there.
