I didn’t make
This up
But I’ve heard it
Since
I was a pup.
A little reminder
For the holiday
In case you’re
Inclined to go
Astray.
“He who drinks a
Fifth on the Fourth
May not be able
To go Forth on the Fifth”
A little advice for you
How true it is, how true.
I heard this since I was a small child growing up in New Orleans in the 60's. My Dad was a merchant marine (seaman) . I wonder who was the orginial author.
I'm sure that George refers to The Fourth Of July American holiday. **** 4 stars for this clever poem, original author perhaps unknown by a living soul. bri : )
Thanks, George. I'm sure you've saved MANY LIVES by repeating the poem HERE on PH. : ))))) OK, maybe one. bri
Desiree (below) typed: 'I heard this since I was a small child growing up in New Orleans in the 60's. My Dad was a merchant marine (seaman) . I wonder who was the orginial author.' [[ oops: ORIGINAL ]]
He who drinks a fifth.......loved the sage advice give with such humor and style!
This poem has not been translated into any other language yet.
I would like to translate this poem
I heard it He who comes forth with a fifth on the fourth might not come fourth on the fifth.
I think 'you want' 'come forth', not 'come fourth' : ) Maybe you shouldn't mix drinking with typing? ? ;) bri
