Let me get this off my chest
like the ill-fitting bra
that has been suffocating
me since before dawn.

In the veil between life and death,
the deal was struck as I drew breath.
A fate which I cannot deflect,
the reaper comes now to collect.

Life inherently moves forward,
progress, change, passing moments
racing onward until the minute
we cease and cross the veil to

Daises dreading the inevitable,
eventual choice of the nervous young man
scanning the flora. Never the pick, passed over
in spite their fresh, innocent appearance. Always the

With baited hooks and bated breath
out on the dock, sit side by side
two life-long friends that once again
compete for bragging rights, for pride.
...

Rusted and corroded-
crumbling tintypes left to rot
in a soggy hat box
in the attic.

Under the cover of time the dreamers whisper,
words that only the heart can hear.
Memories merged with dreams until
she feels him there, standing at

When she lived among us,
I think even then we knew,
she was something special
a little more than me or you.

The lady and the dolphins three,
dance in the water crystalline.
So beautiful, so wild and free
in a place untouched, still pristine.

Apathetic, an automaton
bereft of compassion;
scar tissue shrouds
her fragile heart.

Her hair fell to the floor.
In bits and pieces,
she was taking back control,
with every inch removed.

Why must I apologize
all the time for everything?
Then sorry, that the word once

She stood accused, Miss Maddie Blair,
of witchery, a most vile crime.
The gallows soon to be her fate,
poor winsome lass with ginger hair

Steadfast, silent

Spike heels clicking
Legs taught and shapely as

Cursed Transformation

Let me get this off my chest
like the ill-fitting bra
that has been suffocating
me since before dawn.
For these next few moments,
I shall not be stifled,
so in lady-like fashion
I preemptively beg your
forgiveness for my outburst.

I am a woman of middle years,
the glow of youth now faded.
I stand at the precipice
of a new chapter.
Slowly going through the 'change'.
That cursed transformation:

Mind blowing
Emotional roller-coaster
Nights soaked in sweat
Offset by
Periods of normalcy
After months of
Unbearable hot flashes
Silently suffering
Enduring the inevitable

They say women are the weaker sex
I dare a man to live through this.
Awkward, unsure
guided by a mind clouded by
hormones running rampant.
Trying to catch my breath,
to come to terms with it all
while attempting to pretend
there is nothing wrong,
and failing.

All women face it
I know I am not the first.
It is merely
the price of being a woman.
The dues paid for
bringing forth life.
