Happy people sow their seeds of happiness or so 'twould seem that way
The smiling face that greets you helps to brighten up your day
Their tiny seed of happiness to great happiness does grow
They are the type of people that all others wish to know

You may as well be happy for your troubles only few
And compared to many others hardships you've not been through
Some people know great poverty and their life journey uphill
But they make the most of their lives and they live on with a will.

Though you may be poor as starving cat
You'll find a welcome in Ballarat
It's Victoria's number one city
For good old Australian hospitality.

In the middle of February they always came to Annagloor
And parked their horse drawn vans by the by road the travelling Irish poor
They came for the March horse fair in Millstreet Town horses they bought and sold
And a beautiful Pinto to them was a horse worth more than gold.

I saw her the dark haired beauty with the Latin eyes of brown
Out walking in the wind and rain on the sidewalks of Belgrave Town
The sky was dark and overcast the deciduous trees were bare
And the chilly nip of Winter in the June morning air.

I often sat upon the dunce's stool
In the class room in Millstreet Town Primary school
My parents they could not feel proud of me
I was not the type of boy they wished me for to be.

Don't sing me 'Slievenamon' or 'Molly Malone' or 'The Banks Of My Own Lovely Lee'
Or 'The Boys Of Wexford' or 'Galway Bay' or even 'The Rose Of Tralee'
I've often heard those songs sung in my young years and the past I do want to forget
They were and are well loved old ballads though tinged with nostalgia and regret

The corellas on the tall gums are calling as darkness is cloaking the sky
The evening is calm though 'tis raining and we need rain the ground is so dry
This evening the farmer is happy his water tanks filling in the rain
Nice to hear the spluttering of rain water down the guttering to the storm water drain
...

In life you should make the most of every day
And respect to others be willing to pay
And try to live happy for time ticks away
It does not wait for anyone as some are known to say
...

For twenty years married to a horrible man
In human years that does seem quite a long span
Her son and her daughter eighteen and nineteen
One might say that her better days she has seen.

The friendliest person who lives on the street
She smiles and says hello to everyone she meet
She always seems happy and cheerful and bright
The cares of the World on her seems so light.

Feel happy for to wake from your sleep every day
For life it is brief and time does tick away
For many today it will be their last sundown
Death comes to the wealthy and poor of the town

The Fred's of this World to say the least rare
Despite the hard life he does seem free of care
Laughter to him comes easy he often does say
One does need to laugh a few times every day

You may as well be happy and sing and laugh and dance
Since our gift of life is terminal and only comes to us by chance
So few do wish to know you when you are feeling down
It is not to your advantage to be a sad sack of the town

From past experience it is said lessons in life we do gain
But only the memories of what was with us does remain
Tomorrow is coming and yesterday has gone
And we live in the now and time is ticking on

Like most people I'm one who fear death though 'tis the fear of death I do fear
And as I age the fear grows stronger as my life's journey's end I do near
A deceased one has not come back to tell us of a hereafter life after death
The last breath we draw on this Planet may well be that our final breath

You cannot always be happy life does not work in this way
And not every day for you can be a good day
I recall the words of a wise aging female sage as a boy
She said if you have not known sadness you cannot appreciate joy

I do envy him the happy go lucky man
For his future he does not have any big plan
Quite happy with his lot he make the most of everyday
If he has any small cares he just laughs them away

I feel lucky in life in truth i can say
In the nice and kind people i meet every day
Though strangers to me they greet me as friend
People for to be friendly who do not need to pretend

Patriotism to many is worth far more than a brag
Those who do wave their pride in their national flag
But if this is what patriotism is all about
Then of such i am happy for to be counted out

The happy person is the one that others wish to know
Like a magnet she or he attracts their friends in numbers grow
The happy and smiling person is one even strangers like to meet
They carry joy with them even whilst walking on the street

Wherever he is at joy is to be found
He carries it with him hand and shares it around
Why he does make friends easily no need to ask why
Happy Johnny the nickname that he is known by

When i am out walking on every street
Happy and sad faces i always do meet
A smile does not cost as the wise one does say
And on passing some even wish me a good day

In his mind for sadness there is not any space
He always does have a big smile on his face
The lilt in his laughter makes for a happy sound
He carries joy with him and shares it around

It has been awhile since his hair was dark brown
The wrinkled old bloke from the far away town
Five times a grandfather divorced by his wife
But he feels quite happy in his single life

You must try to feel happy to make your life worthwhile
And though you may feel you've no reason to smile
For the hard knocks of life have been getting you down
Few do wish to know the sad sack of the town

A happy person always so good to meet
One smiling and down to earth without conceit
Just meeting them does bring some joy to your day
About them they do have such a happy way

His own share of worries in life he has known
But true courage in adversity he is one who has shown
And for one in financial difficulties he does seem carefree
He does seem quite happy as anyone can wish for to be

Why people are attracted to happy people to understand not a hard thing
Since happiness does seem infectious of the praises of gloom who could sing

Be happy if you can and try to enjoy every day
For the clock on our lives ever does tick away
The Seasons pass quickly we grow old too soon
And for all of us there is a last rising moon

In a World where many have ulcers due to worry and stress
And where people are judged by material success
And since everyone answers to the reaper's call
The happy one is the most successful of all.

When the white backed magpie on the tall gum he opens his sivery bill
And pipes his own natural music so beautiful free flowing and clear

So many burdened by cares in a Human World where worries are rife
But isn't he the lucky fellow the man who laughs at life
And though life for him is not easy he does not leave that get him down
His laughter is infectious he spreads it in the town

Do not sing me a song that will bring me to tears
That will make me nostalgic for the long gone years
My prime years of life I don't wish to recall
Sing something that's happy or nothing at all

I've bred and raced greyhounds played Junior Gaelic Football
And any success in life I have not known at all
I have daydreamed a lot and I've penned doggerel
Is there such a place as the Poetasters Hell?

Such a lovely person and so nice to know
By the smile on her face she has the inner glow
The windows of her soul are open to light
She is always so cheerful and bubbly and bright.

To live reasonably happy is my idea of success
Life is too short for worry and for stress
The more you worry the more your worries grow
And unhappiness is one none wish to know

She talked loudly to her friend the gray haired old dear
The story of her weekend I could not help but overhear
As I sat in the cafe drinking a coffee
They gossiped away quite oblivious to me

The lorikeets on the flowering gums chirping the silver gulls call in the Bay
The sun through the gray clouds is peeping it sure is a beautiful day
The noisy miners chirp around their borders aggressive and noisy by Nature and name
The rivalry between different bird species is for real but in the Human World it is the same.

I recall the crickets chirping and the scent of new mown hay
In the meadows of my childhood years ago and far away
And the dark winged swallows singing circling in the sunny sky
And I all alone with Mother Nature on a morning in July.

A rose by any name a rose and you I'm not trying to impress
And you have always been a rose you beautiful poetess
And this rose like flower I give to you to much may not amount
Though some do say and I'm one of those that it is the thought that count.

To some he is the idiot of the town
A silly man and at least an unpaid clown
He laughs aloud at jokes they cannot see
Or could it be the humorous one is he?

He won't be going back to the field by the high wood by the hill
And walk along by the old stream whose tongue is never still
He is happy in this tropical town of sun shine every day
And he doesn't pine for what has been and brown hills far away

Happy birthday Nuala Taylor though the greeting may be late
For one in her middle thirties you do certainly look great
If I did not know what age you were I'd say you were nineteen
As you look beautiful as ever and remain a beauty queen.
