Since the day you left he's been running,
Running from what was once his life.
But no matter how fast or cunning,
He'll never escape your knife.

His voice was like wood smoke & sawdust
As he comforted, crying over made up scenarios of a world without him
"I'll never die Tee-bee Jay-bee... I'm superman"
His voice convinced me he was immortal
...

I remember her bright brown eyes
looking at me through clouds of cigarette smoke
They looked so cheerful next to the laugh lines above her cheeks
but her skin & teeth slowly turned yellow

We come up ashamed of our small, sad frown
We never stop to think of its meaning.

What if you lost your child,
The one you tuck into bed.
Your little baby, so meek and mild,
What if he were dead?

As I lay me down to sleep
I pray to anything left
That I don't fall so very deep
Right into the arms of death
