Scott Hastie Poems

Despite what we imagine
In our sometime pain,
Beset either by aching anticipation
Or subsequent loss,
...

Whatever joys come our way,
The road ahead will be a hard one.
Your kinship though is precious,
Like sweet molasses,
...

Out there in the fragile shadows
Beyond the self,
Lurks unimaginable power.
...

The day is done
And no one is immune,
It's true.
...

Lost puppies?
We are no longer,
That's for sure…
Since all that's been and gone,
...

Each of us orphans
On this dizzy sphere,
Initially cast adrift
Without a mooring point.
...

A need for connection,
Attachment.
Drawn in, enchanted by
Resonances with nature
...

We are anything but finite
Or alone!
After all the petals of proof
Are here in our hearts,
...

Laid bare,
Ripped open
By the sheer joy
We allowed ourselves to share,
...

10.

Graced with the chance to be here,
Even if only fleetingly,
Embrace whatever comes your way
And, in so doing,
...

To seek solace as they did.
To draw strength from the natural world,
Only for it to tighten its remorseless grip,
Till it brings you face to face
...

However beautiful,
No pebble on the beach.

You were my touchstone.
...

Life collects, pools around you.
It paints its highlights,
Nothing there you can destroy
Or begin again.
...

When in love or inspired,
An eternal kiss from the divine
Awaits us all.
...

Splendour sleeps
In the thick still grey skies
Of a season's bleakness.
...

Every new day our childrens' joy
Is as fresh as roses,
Even the birds chatter at dawn.
...

To kiss the fruit
And caress the flower,
To taste without tarnishing
Humble nature's natural dower,
...

Passions burst.
The excitement of being
Leaks away into time and space.
...

To dream as Picasso did.
To seize upon the astounding fact
Of being alive
And make it significant,
...

Scott Hastie Biography

Scott Hastie is a successful British born poet and writer, who has been has been commercially published in the UK for over twenty years now. He currently has seven titles in print, including a novel and four collections of poetry. In recent years, the spiritual tone in his maturing poetic voice is starting to draw increasing acclaim from a worldwide audience, especially in the U.S. India & the Middle East. Scheduled for global release, in both e & print editions this September, Angel Voices is by far his most substantial collection of poetry to date, featuring over 40 brand new poems never before seen, either in print or on the net. This title builds much more on the mature poetic voice that first began to emerge in Scott’s previous title Meditations and also features all readers recent favourites, as showcased on his popular website. Scott says: I consider myself fortunate to be able to be living and writing full-time at home in the glorious Hertfordshire countryside, only a thirty minute commuter ride from London. My poetry looks to positively explore human potential, with an emphasis on love, spiritual growth and self awareness. It is very important to me that my work remains as open, accessible and as simply expressed as possible. My influences vary from the great traditional English visionary romantics like Keats, Coleridge & Blake through to the distillation of thought and leanness of expression offered by the Japanese haiku tradition and later technical breakthroughs achieved in the 1970’s by leading Scottish concrete poets Ian Hamilton Finlay and Edwin Morgan.)

The Best Poem Of Scott Hastie

Despite What We Imagine

Despite what we imagine
In our sometime pain,
Beset either by aching anticipation
Or subsequent loss,
Lovers are never found by chance.

So tell that to the trees,
Who've seen it all
Countless times before
And can only stand apart
In the meadow of life
And wait
For us to dream again,
Like some broken hearted waif
On a grimy street,
For whom only the predatory
Are likely to stop.

For not even fool's comfort
Can cling on there
To inhibit notes of caution
That would otherwise trim our wings,
Spoil any such dividend.

And so much more too!

Seems like
We always had this coming.
Our needs, till met,
Like rising sap,
Like clotted pollen in the air.

As it always is
In beauty's sweet surrender,
Desire is the irresistible pull
That draws us steadily
On to one another
And then fruits.

You were in me all along.

Popularity ebbs and flows like Scott's fine, elegantly draped poetry. I have been fortunate to review some of his literary collections. He is gifted in proper language and soul.
