You're Vulnerable, Dear Child Poem by Aniruddha Pathak

You're Vulnerable, Dear Child

Rating: 4.7

Beware, you might males encourage,
No showy clothes, it might attract,
It's hard the male mind to distract,
It might challenge their macho rage.

Think ere braving out with a male—
Nor alone-at-home safe is found,
E'en kith and kin could turn a hound,
A male by nature seems so frail.

Females— vulnerable at once,
Nor safe being barely a child,
For, morals downward have declined,
Old age is no safe insurance.

Marriage mitigates in a way
But it has masked many a rape,
One might with help a curse escape,
But let us still hope for that day.

Dice is loaded and doors are closed,
Not what you do, nor none at all,
You'd better be a dumb li'le doll
Tossed here, there, a fair sex is bossed.

If you wish the male pride to dent,
To challenge it, you'd better change
And take a sea-horse like revenge—
Can you make male species pregnant?

Most middle class families seem to think about girls on the lines indicated in this piece. It seems, it is a curse to be born a girl in some countries where the system is loaded in favour of males. In some desperation when things remain as are, and ironically, the piece winds up with a humorous end.

I concur with the wonderful and insightful thoughts of the great Poet. An important write with a meaningful message to parents and women especially of tender age girls. Liked the fascinating title of this great poem.

Thank you Rose Marie for some kind words. And you are quite right about the title. This poem was there with a different title for a long time. I revised the poem, deleted the old one, change the title with this new avatar and it has got some attention. A case of million million spermatozoa, and only one has the chance to breed... Here on PH if not one, only but a few.

In our society a female child is an unwelcome guest. When i look at the wonders of fine arts and literature, i notice everywhere there is a beautiful woman in it. When I look at the sculptures and carvings I notice the beauty of a woman has been exploited in it. I was shocked to listen to an old grandmother, she was praying. My Allah bless my son with a son!

The attitude depicted in the poem comes primarily from the concern to see that the female child remains safe. This is especially when an individual is unable to provide enough protection. This began from the second/third century of this millennial with foreign invaders who primarily plundered, destroyed things, and raped women. Thank you for the feedback.

Strangely, from my experience, males are the kinder gentler souls…..often, not always.

May be, but they wear their emotions on their sleeves and react. Their emotions also manifest on the surface, and too quickly, before and after. Thanks for the comments.

To challenge all this you aught change, If you wish to make a dent, And take a sea-horse like revenge— To make male of the species pregnant! how wonderful it would be that we men could give birth. my dear poet Aniruddha....... it is so sad, women are not cared for especially in India.. there should be a revolution to change the society. tony

Not revolution, changes come from the deep in India. Nearly a thousand-year foreign conservative domination has made a deep impact, and it would take time. Thank you for the comments.
