Winter Night Beauty Poem by Galeigh Parkin

Winter Night Beauty

Let me sit on a blanket of snow
Among and beneath the coniferous boughs of trees serene
Inhaling, the 'incense of pine forest green'
Listening to the echo of a coyotes call, 'baying to the moon'
While he sits in wait, that he may wander to a mate.

Overhead, I hear the snapping of cones opening
their unconfined woody blossoms.
Offering salutations, to the oncoming
'dark complexion of nightfall'
From tiny mouth like cracks, a turpin fragrance
of dripping sap, 'is imbedded frozen, within the snow'

The heavens covered with white sparkles, 'reflect
a curtained background of stars'
Dangling as chandeliers, 'appear to be clusters
of crystal tiers, 'magnifying themselves
in the cast moonlit shadows'

The solar vast beyond sends a luminous intensity
of each stars birth.
Streaking, 'like rocketed candles'
Above the system, 'Planet Earth'

A fading flickering of fire disappears
into the night. From 'gigantic molten fireball'
disintegrating all, while in it's flight to
a metalic dust 'blown out of sight'

The somewhat desolate solidarity quiets this night.
The venting of my lungs, expell frosted breaths.
Like puffs, 'from a steam locomotive'
Evaporating, being taken away by the wind,
'into the darkness'

The snow is beginning it's descent
Silently, tons of matter and mass appear to be
'chipped pieces of ancient parchment'
Flurries swirling about, 'as frozen figurines, '
randomly, pirouette upon my naked hand then' melt
from the epidermal warmth.

White lace like patterns, 'blanket the earth with
vaporized moisture.
Individual flakes, 'perform their dance' exciting
the expectant field 'which will yield'
'Springtime Daisies and Wild Clover' Very Soon
