Why I Write Poetry...! Poem by Steve A. Politte

Why I Write Poetry...!

I always try to envision the beauty,
the wonders and the awesomeness of life;
but also accepting the fact that
on this journey, there is, indeed, much strife.

I also intend to focus in some way,
on the positives of each situation;
The focus of most of what I write,
is certainly God, the author of creation.

Some may not see this write
as much a poem as I go along,
for some ending words will not rhyme,
but that's ok because some
rhyming words are hard to find.

In my mind, poetry has to do with
expression of feelings, or imagination,
reality, and sometimes dreams;
surely that can be found
in other avenues of expression, it seems.

The painter paints a portrait of the sky;
doesn't question any reason,
or poses the question, "Why? "

The sculptor creates a statue of clay;
molds it and fashions it
in many different ways.

The author writes a book to tell a story;
perhaps a novel of suspense or of love.
It may be of fiction or non-fiction,
or perhaps a book about God up above.

I begin as a poet, writing poems of love,
so young and shy, and fully unaware
of how inadequate I often felt,
searching for love of a girl just anywhere.

It was not enough for me to dream
of her every night, with some anticipation,
or to imagine us together and in love,
devoutly kissing, lips to lips, no hesitation.

I wrote about my fantasies and adventures,
that would surface in my mind;
about daffodils and sunsets;
green hills and water streams,
that gave notice to wonder of time.

I suppose I write poetry for the same
reason that other poets do;
to champion a cause, to find a friend,
because its in my blood, through and through.

I write about who I am as I see myself,
on this journey of life that we each trod;
knowing that no matter what I write about,
it is sometimes inspired by a friend,
and more often than not, inspired by our God!

Inspired to write about His great love to all,
so unconditionally given, and certainly free;
but only if I share it with others,
no matter who they might be.

For we are all brothers and sisters
in the eyes of God, this is true;
sharing His love with one another,
because that is what Jesus wants us to do;
and I can say it best,
writing these words called Poetry!
