Who Am I? And Who Are You? Poem by Aminath Neena

Who Am I? And Who Are You?

Who are you
and
Who am I?

Why am I awake
In the middle of the night
Thinking of you?
Craving for you?
What are you to me?

Why do this heart of mine
Jostle when I look at you
Igniting my senses
Even with floating conversation?
Who are you to me?

Why do I have this feeling
That I have known you
from somewhere long before
In another place; another time?
What were you to me?

Why is my heart telling me
That you are mine though
I know you are taken
and you belong with someone else?
Who are you to me?

Why is that when things are wrong
ethically, morally and socially-
This mysterious force keeps
Pushing me towards you?
What are you to me?

How can this be when
Religiously, culturally and sensibly
I know this to be so outrageous?
So immensely out of proportion?
Who are you to me?

Have I been infested with an ailment?
When did this happen to me?
what is the remedy?
What do I do?
What are you to me?

Are you thinking
“She is probably infatuated with me? ”
Well! Are you aware that I am a grown woman
Who has probably lost herself in a daze?
Who are you to me?

Who am I
and
who are You?

Hindu mythology has a clear view of it. Your feelings are a reflection of your previous life. Other mythologies are silent on this topic. Our mythology gives a solution, one can keep four wives at a time. But you being an ideal woman having an Indian origin should be prepared to become Meera or Radha leaving Shyam for his wife, if your love is true. The true love will carry you to him when this maya is all over. Your poem, no doubt a nice poem.
