When I Was A Boy Poem by Colin Ian Jeffery

When I Was A Boy

Rating: 5.0

When I was a boy, bare-kneed, short trousers
Playing happy, adventurous, life was such a joy
Chocolate bar a farthing, sweets in paper bags
Packets of crisps with blue paper twist of salt
Milk delivered by horse and cart, coal fires
Excitement of waking on Christmas morn
Presents piled at end of bed, hanging stocking
Filled with apple, orange, nuts, chocolate bar.
Saturday morning at children's cinema club
Football, cricket, chase and tag, in the park.
Annual church fete, mother on sawdust tub
Sixpence a dip into sawdust finding the gift.
Childhood playmates, never forgot, now memories
Cherished, revisited in thoughts and dreams.

A lovely poem with beautiful memories of childhood! We love to go back to the time we cherish most.
