What Is The Meaning Of Life Poem by David Pyrs

What Is The Meaning Of Life

Rating: 5.0

You seek a meaning,
A lifetime long.

To answer a question,
From within.

You seek for truth and happiness,
To make a dream come true.

You seek a meaning,
You want happiness,

You're thirsty for fame.
You're on chase for fortune.

The meaning of life,
Is not the question you ask,

But, actions that you speak.

David, life can be so mesmerizing to me sometimes. At 17 I lost full faith in God due to the death of my mother. But really it was more than just that.... It was the indignant suffering she endured in the last few years of her life that made me wonder why any existential creator - trumpeted as all loving - would allow such pain, or even death. As I looked around I saw people starving to death all across the world, even on the streets of my own nation, entire families homeless, stricken by economy, mental illness, or any number of different things that could fall upon you or I at any moment - and so only by the grace of God - but there go we. And so a few short years later I regained my faith - with a new understanding of the meaning of life. I've come to believe that we are not here to enjoy life. Nor reach fame or wealth. In fact, if there is a warm bed, refrigerated food, a toilet and shower in my home then I am already more wealthy and live more lavishly than any king before the 20th century ever did. We - those of us living in first world society - are living in the land of milk and honey. While others starve around the world, losing hope and all dignity - groveling amongst trash and rubbish to stay alive - we pay our highest salaries to men who play ball games on Sunday afternoons. And that's why I believe we are not here to enjoy life, or to be entertained. We are here to learn to love - because obviously at some point before life we failed miserably at that. Misery exists to teach us how to love. If this were Heaven and God were all powerful then there would be no need for pain, suffering, hunger, disease, or death. God specifically created these things to teach us how to love, how to care, a reason to stop being selfish and take action to assist someone else, perhaps ease their suffering in some small way. And there is no question in my mind about it - that requires action. So as far as I'm concerned your poem and its message are spot on correct... Excellent message!

You know the meaning of life can be broader too, i agree with you but dont we forget, it is happiness and the use of our life age to discover what in us, what we can offer..as much as we can give we may see the horizon of life meaning becomes wider than ever...it beyond eyes to see and heart could be..if we want to go beyond this line_Soul
