He went to the field as the order unfold
A yearly routine that became very old
He carryed experience that young men did not
He walked through Hell's Valley where is just awfully rough
He witness anger and pain that you just can't forget
Now at the field, He trained all day
Blood, Sweat, and Tears was just the normal end-state
He mentored those around him because he wanted to see, young soldiers return
standing tall on two feet
Throughout the day you can see him laugh
Who would have thought something was not right
He was surrounded by friends every minute of the day
Yet he felt lonely and it's very hard to explain
As the night creeped in, and his shadow takes off
The experienced soldier has no one to talk
He froze the night with his war torn soul
He disappears for a while and no one gave a thought
He was just praying for a change of heart
He finally return from a regular event
The soldiers were picked up by family and friends
He got in his truck and just faded away
To continue the battles that will never end
