Wake Up Poem by Nassy Fesharaki

Wake Up

Andrea was girlfriend of martyred
She broke with the news
Kept away; implicitly conversed
Now she is explicit:
'Hey wake up'

Mostly know the cause as mental health; disorder
Seeking help
Knocking doors
And each door is wrong door
Then a gun and murder
Slogans come along: 'He is a terrorist; a Muslim.'

'Hey wake up'
Andrea says and must mean
'Don't fool us; do not fish in the mud.'

Some leaders
(Elected or enforced)
Are shepherds with the flute
(Rumi's Nay)
And people
(The voted and oppressed)
In roaming, busy herds
Needing food

David-like
Suddenly the shepherd blows in ‘Nay'
The sheep, goats
Turn around and say 'Hey'
Slogans
On papers, placards, on the air
And they run
(Sheep and goats)

We always need someone to remind
Andrea is that one:
'Hey wake up...don't fool us.'
