Waisting Prayers Poem by Claire Jones

Waisting Prayers

I do not believe in God at all.
I don't disrespect others who do for that is their choice.
It seems like a universal dream,
Begging for it to be true
That we're really not alone
Just keep the faith, down on your knees
Hands clasped together so tightly
Blood could pour from your palms.

Passed down through generations
'God will save our souls if we only believe'
If we cast aside doubt and hatred and do gods work
we'll walk beside him in the kingdom of heaven.

Thats what you want to believe and thats fine by me
I don't buy it though, I'd rather walk around with my eyes open
Seeing people the way they are
In this life you have to believe in yourself, in your own dreams.

You have to fight for what you want
No-one else is going to intervene, your soul won't be saved.
You may think I'm angry and that I'm going to hell
Thats ok.

Hell is an illusion civilised society holds onto.
Hell is waiting for something that will never come
Praying for dreams that are never answered
Judging others according to the BOOK.

Cheating on your wife, abusing your kids, beating your neighbours
Its all ok because you go to Church on an occasional Sunday
Maybe even Mass
Sins washed away today
Start over again tomorrow.

You won't change my mind
I don't need to be cured
I have seen the light
But I kept my eyes open.

COMMENTS OF THE POEM
Joe Breunig 28 January 2007

An intriguing write; one should not judge God based on the actions of people; while it is true that where sin abounds, grace abounds more abundantly, it is not a license to intentionally continue in the sin. God is patient; dreams that line up with His Word are met via prayer. God challenges us to test and try Him at His Word, which is something that most people are unable or unwillingly to do.
