Voyage Of The Pequot Poem by Jim Boone

Voyage Of The Pequot

Obsession sets sail with singular purpose
Vengeance as the downfall of humanity
“I am not, therefore I must be.”

Adventure sought, first watch:
“Thar she blows! ” “I Am that I Am.”

Thump, thump; thump, thump.

Wrestling with the ‘bedeviled’
A calm that bids all else ‘wait’

Starbuck and Ahab at odds
A crew steadfast, resigned, brave

Eye to eye, heart to heart
Crossed paths, crossed purposes
Prophesy and balls; valor and doom.

The ‘great white whale’ of ‘vengeance’
Called ‘Moby Dick’ by scholars
Taking down all who would be
‘Of this world’ – sparking imagination
And resolve of those who are ‘in’
For the lessons from each ‘course’

Remembering that Spirit is a breath away
And ‘vengeance’ be ‘damned if you seek it’
Soul be ‘blessed if you don’t’
In the light of smooth sailing
And classic literature.
