Value of democracy

We gained freedom
Liberty and wisdom
But we were infants
Not clever enough to present

World knew that we are fresh country
So may want help for needy people
It came shortly but we were disorganized still
The princely states were ready to kill

More than 500 states and all had freedom to join
The Sardar Patel* brought them under one nation
We were under foreign yoke
The democracy was really joke

The transformation was over night
People had to undergo sufferings and fight
So it has earned freedom but people were to be told
"Rights and duties" go together

Rights can't be absolute
We are federal states
And run by constitution
It has to show strong foundation

The politicians have still not matured
The people are seldom assured
Of what has been promises and what is given
The values of democracy is totally forgotten

Since politics in country is totally cast based
The public and parties are confused
With one view in mind may give rise to alienation
The confusion and uncertainty has engulfed our nation
