Unceremonious Poem by Shruti Goswami

Unceremonious

It was an unceremonious birth
I took.
Just another girl
In a dreamy town
Amidst the swarm and swirl
Of a bursting population
And that was all there was
To feel and say
Like there would be nothing more
To add or subtract
Come what may.

I know that it will be
An unceremonious death
Someday, somewhere
But in between
These two mundane incidents
Which science might say
An accident
Where the probability
Of being alive is miniscule
Maybe to the power
Of infinity
Where impossible
Is defined as eternity
Where only memories
Can be left behind
I want them
To be of a different kind
I want to remind
This world and its people
I was not just another girl
Or another woman
In the crowd
I was the woman
One could look up to see
I was that woman
Everyone
Wanted to be.
